Camp Buckner is an interdenominational, recreational, Christian retreat and conference center that offers services to churches, youth groups, businesses, and other various ministries.
Summer 2024 internships are available for those interested in working with camp ministry, non-profit, parks, or recreational careers.
Objectives: To engage and equip the next generation of leaders with a comprehensive understanding of a camp's direction, execution, and influence by immersing them within the day-to-day operation of the facilities' programs and activities.
Acquired Skills: The intern will gain hands-on experience in Group Planning and Organization, High-Risk Activity Facilitation, Resource Allocation and Finance, Marketing, Volunteer Coordination and Organization, Recruitment, and Crisis Management.
Time frame: End of May to Beginning of August
Hours offered: Internship can provide a minimum of 20 hours and maximum of 40 hours a week
Location: Interns will stay on-site along staff to gain a behind-the-scenes perspective of operations
Compensation: Interns can receive up to $4,000 for their time worked at camp, as well as any college credit the university has approved to contribute to the student's degree program
Details: Intern will take a leading role in programs and activities for guests to ensure safety and enjoyment.
Learning how to plan, facilitate, lead and serve through camp ministry, the intern will be responsible for facilitating various activities including ropes course, canoeing/kayaking, archery, and lifeguarding at the pool and the blob.
Intern will work under and alongside different directors of camp operations including activities, kitchen, maintenance, coordination, sales and marketing to learn all the elements that go into making a successful camp.
This direction can be broken into weekly areas of focus that will allow for the intern to immerse themselves in the department for the specific time frame.
At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will have a personalized resume tailored to their desired job field reflecting the transferrable skills they have mastered through their hands-on experience.
Instructor will work alongside intern to create, format, and export the resume highlighting the camp experience.
Criteria for Consideration: Candidates must be working towards a bachelor's or master's degree, preferably in Parks and Recreation, Camp Management, Non-Profit, or Hospitality.
Candidate should have the ability to work outside in various weather conditions performing a variety of physical tasks.
Candidates must possess a current certification or express willingness to obtain certifications in First Aid, CPR/AED, Lifeguarding and Waterfront Skills, Challenge Course, and Archery.
