Temple Generating Station consist of (2) 766MW combined cycle power blocks, each with (2) Siemens SGT6-5000F gas turbines, (1) Siemens SST6-5000 Steam Turbine; and (3) Siemens Generators, including all associated gas and electrical interconnection systems and facilities and other associated equipment, systems, and structures; water treatment, cooling, supply and discharge systems; plant auxiliary and support facilities.
Each plant is interconnected to Oncor Electric Delivery Company at 345 kV and sells power into the ERCOT market.
The Reliability Engineer will provide technical oversight and guidance to the Operations and Maintenance Departments in effort to improve and maintain operating reliability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The individual will have a critical role in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the generating station and supporting systems and will participate in the Station Safety Programs and as requested.
Candidate must have experience with rotating equipment, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermal performance, and, in general, have a very strong understanding of Thermal Power Generation systems.
Candidate will conduct investigations and lead resolution of plant equipment operational or mechanical issues, equipment upgrades or modifications, development of new projects and project management, budget development and cost control.
Analyze reliability problems and make recommendations for improvements with consideration to alternatives, equipment availability, material needs, and repair versus replacement costs.
Perform studies on equipment and process failures and present details of the analysis in report format to management.
Plan, direct, and coordinate activities concerned with the design, construction, modification, and long-term maintenance of equipment and machinery.
Monitor and report on plant operations and maintenance to optimize plant operating characteristics and efficiencies and minimize maintenance costs.
Identify mechanical and operational deficiencies and develop solutions to improve equipment reliability and optimize capabilities.
Facilitate and/or lead the implementation of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methods.
Assist in financial justification of equipment reliability upgrades and improvements using return on investment tools such as Life Cycle Costing (LCC) and risk analysis.
Facilitate equipment criticality strategy and ranking sessions for new assets and periodically review existing rankings as the business model changes.
Stay abreast of new technology and recommend implementation based on criticality, cost, and associated risk.
Monitor and evaluate asset bad actor lists.
Support and provide technical assistance on critical spares strategy.
Provide oversight in collection, analysis, and reporting of equipment operating data.
Recommends changes that will lead to improvements in station reliability.
Performs failure analysis for equipment within responsibility area.
Consults with engineers, OEM’s, site, and off-site equipment users to determine equipment characteristics and determine failure modes and corrective actions.
Provides oversight of predictive maintenance services within responsibility area.
Develops plans for maintenance, repair, replacement and/or improvement of assigned equipment, systems and processes using predictive maintenance technologies.
Documents issues and actions taken; maintains records, drawings and manuals associated with assigned equipment as required to maintain station reliability.
Attend training to remain current in reliability and predictive maintenance technologies.
Assumes responsibility of the station predictive equipment.
Includes thermography, lubrication, vibration, and associated software.
Other duties as assigned.
Candidate shall have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical or Industrial Engineering from an accredited university with at least five years of experience with Power Plant mechanical equipment.
Candidates must be familiar with Thermal Power Generation units and processes.
Must have experience with mechanical and electrical equipment found in power plants such as pumps, motors, gearing, breakers, lubrication / cooling systems, instrumentation, diagnostic software.
Must have experience in complex system monitoring and project management.
It is imperative the Reliability Engineer have the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously at the site safely, on schedule and to budget.
Knowledge of vibration analysis; thermal performance; fluid dynamics; heat transfer is necessary.
Candidate must have the ability to define and perform testing to identify problems, analyze field data, and translate it into useful information to provide technical direction in the repair of mechanical equipment and / or operation improvement of various systems.
Candidate is required to possess the following skills: exceptional leadership, organization, attention to detail, working well under pressure, and time management.
Effective human relation skills, strong communication skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, MVP CMMS, PI, DCS and electronic logbook are desirable to analyze information to convey directives and ideas.
General software knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint…etc.
) and Accounting/Purchasing Software.
Other Desirable Skills Self-starter with ability to work with limited direct supervision.
Previous leadership experience.
Experience with Siemens Technology (combustion turbines, steam turbines, generators, controls) The work environment combines both office and plant working conditions.
Candidate must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, and fall protection harnesses.
Employee may be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
The successful candidate may be required to work additional hours including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays depending on workload, project deadlines, and plant restoration efforts.
Duties will include 50% office time and 50% field time with variable temperature extremes.
