*CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT-IMMUNIZATIONS*
*General Description:*
The Medical Assistant in Immunizations performs various clinical and clerical tasks.
The Medical Assistant collaborates with other members of the Immunizations Program and other multidisciplinary teams, assisting in direct patient care and assisting with other related duties pertaining to the immunizations program.
The Medical Assistant reports administratively under the direction of the Clinical Manager and under the medical supervision of the District Health Authority, Bell County Public Health District or his/her designee.
*WORKING HOURS: *
Monday - Thursday 7am.
- 4:30pm
Friday - 7am.
- 11am.
Evening and Weekend hours as required.
*POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: *
* Maintain inventory and restock supplies.
* Obtain and record patient medical history, vital signs, test results, and immunization details for medical records while maintaining patient confidentiality.
* Coordinating set up of various clinic and outreach locations.
* Administer vaccinations.
* Inform and educate the public about vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases.
* Inform the public about the Texas Vaccines for Children, Adult Safety Net Programs, and the eligibility criteria for qualifying.
* Provide information to external community healthcare about the importance of vaccination of healthcare workers.
* Work to ensure that all Immunization Program Contractor staff are knowledgeable about vaccines and vaccine Program Development.
* Educate healthcare workers on the importance of keeping themselves up to date with the vaccine schedule.
* Perform as the immunization coalition coordinator (ICC).
The ICC shall actively seek partnering opportunities to educate the public on improving vaccination rates.
* Attend and participate in required coalition training sponsored by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
* Develop and foster collaborative efforts with external organizations to benefit BCPHD and the patients it serves.
* Serve as part of public health emergency response efforts, as needed.
* Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Manager, District Director, or Health Authority.

* Knowledge and ability to perform procedures appropriate for the medical assistant's scope of practice and area of employment.
* Ability to learn and implement knowledge of clinical and office operations.
* Ability to observe patients' general physical condition to detect abnormalities.
* Ability to communicate effectively utilizing written and oral skills.
* Ability to perform phlebotomy.
* Ability to record observations completely, accurately, legibly, and concisely.
* Knowledge of fundamental principles of human behavior and an appreciation of the effects of stress upon individuals and groups.
* Ability to work within the team concepts concerning patient care.
* Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with people of all backgrounds.
* Ability to work efficiently and effectively, multi-task, and under pressure.
*SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS/REQUIREMENTS/RECOMMENDAIONS:*
* The ability to stand, sit, and drive for prolonged periods is required.
* Increased risk for exposure to and possible transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases.
* Must have appropriate immunizations according to BCPHD Staff Member Immunization Policy.
*MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:*
* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Valid TX driver’s license with reliable transportation.
* Current CPR certification
* Current valid certification as a Medical Assistant.
* One year of experience as a medical assistant in a healthcare setting.
