This role is responsible for operating in a manner that will optimize the organization’s efficiency and help achieve daily and weekly delivery goals including driving to and from designated locations, verifying loads against shipping papers, maintaining record of duty status according to state and federal regulations, and performing pre-trip and post trip inspections.
Key Roles / Responsibilities: Inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and submit a written report on the condition of the truck at the end of each trip.
Drive truck to and from designated destinations for up to 11 hours with and maximum of 14 hours total as DOT rules allow.
Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather.
Must be able to operate equipment in all types of weather and conditions.
This includes going forward and backing up long distances, around corners and in and around very tight areas.
Report all accidents and incidents involving drivers or company equipment.
Report highway safety hazards noted in route.
Promptly report delays due to breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions or other emergencies.
Maintain records required for compliance with state and federal regulations including driver’s record of duty status, mileage records and other records required by law.
Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and comply with all federal, state, and local regulations for the safe operations of a commercial motor vehicle.
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications: Must have 1 year with CDL license.
(must be active with valid med card) Haz Mat endorsement (preferred) Willing to learn how to operate some equipment as needed.
Over The Road driver experience (preferred).
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Working Conditions: Prolonged periods sitting in a truck cab for long periods of time.
Ability to maintain single task focus and situational awareness.
Long term physical fitness for duty to maintain all licenses and certifications of fitness as required by regulatory agencies and licensing entities (DMV, FAA, DOT, et cetera).
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Determine the distance between objects.
React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place.
Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
