JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing nursing care to residents as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with standards of nursing practices, regulations, and directed by the Director of Nursing.
The Charge Nurse will lead or direct licensed and non-professional staff in the delivery of direct Resident care and support functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients in the unit
Make nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees
Maintain acceptable standards of patient care
Identify problems and guides personnel to their solution
Create a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel
Accurately and promptly implement physicians’ orders
Support and enforce infection-control policies and procedures
Use system to convey/receive resident information
Maintain a professional approach with confidentiality
Cooperate and maintain good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors
Obtain and document nursing history from the patient and/or significant other that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems
Perform basic assessment of the patient, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology
Record vital signs, note changes, and pursue more-specific investigation as needed
Assess for and notify physician and other appropriate parties of changes in condition
Use assessment information to develop a care plan before the end of duty time that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for
the patient
Use care plans as a basis for providing safe and therapeutic care to patients
Consistently follow established standards, policies, and procedures in providing nursing care
Accept accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of nonprofessional personnel
Communicate with the patient and his or her family and other members of the health care team in carrying out the goals of the care plan
Perform competently those technical skills considered basic to the type of care given in that unit
Respond appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations
Support standards of nursing care through adherence to existing policies and procedures
Seek guidance when encountering nursing procedures and responsibilities that have not been mastered
Promote positive public relations with patients, residents, family members, and guests
Use tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations
Use appropriate workplace behavior and adhere to dress code at all times
Understand and adhere to the guidelines of “Residents Rights” and assure resident safety
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
Current LVN license
CPR certified required; 30 days will be given to complete a course and get certified
Ability to understand, remember and carry out verbal or written instructions in English
Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner
Ability to be flexible and positive with intermittent interruptions
Preferred:
2 years nursing experience in long term care/skilled nursing
