Oversee and manage outside counsel in litigation and claims involving the company.
Provide advice and counsel to the business on a broad range of complex commercial, operational, employment, product liability, vehicle accident, and premises liability matters, among others.
Deliver top quality strategic and cost-conscious legal solutions to the business.
Act as a hands-on, proactive business partner who can support a wide assortment of day-to-day needs and long-term projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Provide sound and balanced legal advice and counsel to McLane about the company's litigation and disputes by assisting, advising, investigating, researching, and resolving legal and business disputes, defenses, and exposures.
Retain and effectively oversee outside counsel as needed to align with and achieve the Company's strategic business objectives, including actively determining litigation strategy, developing discovery plans, reviewing discovery responses, retaining experts, establishing budgets, coordinating internal team support, and identifying proactive mitigation plans.
Partner with internal business clients to assess legal risks and develop strategic and consistent solutions to protect the company's interests.
Coordinate with the appropriate McLane subject matter experts to generate successful and cost-effective outcomes.
Maintain engagement with key external parties and entities, including industry connections and outside counsel network.
Manage a high volume of legal projects and ensure that key information is communicated to necessary stakeholders.
Regularly review and assess known litigation exposures and timely recommend contingent reserves to management.
Raise lessons learned from investigations and litigation, and work with cross-functional teams to address and mitigate risk for the company.
Maintain communication and compliance with McLane's insurance carriers regarding pertinent losses and developments.
Manage responses to third-party subpoenas.
Manage litigation hold program and electronic discovery processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Juris Doctorate from accredited U.
S.
law school.
State bar membership in good standing in at least one state.
Seven or more years of experience in litigation, including substantive responsibilities in jury trials and/or arbitrations.
Experience taking and defending depositions and cross-examining witnesses.
Experience preparing and presenting motions, briefs and pleadings in court proceedings, trials and appeals.
First-chair litigation jury trial experience Outstanding communication skills (both oral and written); excellent interpersonal skills; ability to manage multiple and competing priorities while meeting deadlines; sound and pragmatic business judgment; ability to deal effectively with strategic issues and tactical operational details; drive for efficiency and process improvement; strategic thinker who can deliver value to clients and find creative solutions to complex legal problems.
Ability to assess litigation risk, engage in early case assessment, and leverage strategies for cost reduction and pre-litigation dispute resolution.
Ability to work both independently and within a team under time pressure to manage litigation, conduct investigations, and gain the trust of business stakeholders to achieve a desired objective.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Office Environment.
Travel up to 25%.
