The Sales Associate is a key employee in maintaining good customer service.
Responsible for serving customers and accurately recording all sales, as well as assisting with merchandising responsibilities, such as stocking, pricing, and keeping the store neat, clean, and organized.
The Sales Associate reports to the Assistant Store Manager or General Manager, as designated.
Sales Associate Responsibilities:
Provides prompt, courteous customer service
Rings up all sales on cash register, properly and accurately handling money, checks and other types of payment received for products sold
Performs multi-function operation of fuel console, lottery, and money order machines
Performs housecleaning duties necessary to maintain store cleanliness and basic upkeep and/or cleaning of all equipment in the store
Assists in maintaining proper inventory levels and shift audits
Controls merchandise, cash shortages and other selling expenses
Performs all duties with minimal supervision; may be required to work irregular hours, attend job-related meetings, and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED preferred
Previous retail experience preferred
Ability to perform the essential duties
Ability to work irregular hours such as shifts, holidays and weekends
Tasks require bending, lifting, stretching, and standing for long periods of time
Essential Duties:
Rings up alt sales on cash register, properly and accurately handling money, checks and other types of payment received for products sold.
Provides prompt, courteous customer service.
Performs multi-function operation of fuel console and lottery machines.

Mental Functions:
Must be able to communicate orally and in writing in English.
Must be able to compare similarities and differences between words and between a series of numbers.
Must be able to perform the four basic arithmetic operations.
Must be able to comprehend and utilize instructions as given.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand and/or walk up to eight hours per day.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds from ground to overhead or 40 pounds from ground to waist level multiple times throughout shift.

Ability to lift and/or carry up to 60 pounds from ground to waist level (i.

Ability to push and pull with arms up to a force of 20 pounds (i.

Ability to bend at the waist with some twisting up to one hour of the workday.
Ability to grasp, reach and manipulate objects with hands up to all day.
This handwork requires eye-hand coordination and may require bilateral coordination of hands up to four hours of the workday.
May be required to climb a ladder to store or retrieve materials and/or place or remove signs.
Working Conditions:
Employee performs approximately 90% of work indoors.
Employee is exposed to intermittent indoor cold temperature extremes when working in the walk-in cooler or freezer.
Employee is exposed to intermittent noise (i.
e.
, cash register, telephone).
Employee works with minimal direction and periodic supervision.
Equipment, Tools, and Materials:
Employee utilizes the following electronic equipment: telephone, cash register, fuel console, lottery machine, money order machine, microwave, grill, coffee/cappuccino machines, etc.
Employee utilizes the following manual equipment: flat cart, hand truck, grocery basket, rubber gloves, mop, broom and degreaser/defoamer.
Employee handles liquids, cloth, plastic, glass, paper, rubber, and cleaning solvents.
