Primary Purpose:
Stakeholders making key decisions for our school community must hear our voice.
We must cultivate our families to become advocates.
The Advocacy Lead will work with the Texas Public Charter Schools Association to develop an advocacy program at Vanguard Academy.
This position will also engage in a community of practice with a cohort of peers from across the state.
To successfully engage in advocacy, the Advocacy Lead will mobilize parents, teachers and staff through training, mobilization, and activation.
Additionally, this position will be the bridge-builder between Vanguard Academy and our elected officials.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree in Public Relations, Administration or related fields, required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Exceptional public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong belief in the mission of public charter schools
Two or more years of experience in grassroots organizing, stakeholder engagement, and/or volunteer management
Experience with social media
Strong project management skills
Strong relationship building skills
Experience managing volunteers and driving them to action
Experience delivering high quality professional development opportunities
Ability to learn quickly and take on responsibility
Ability to juggle multiple projects with a strong attention to detail
Strong detail orientation and organizational skills a must
Excellent written and in-person communications skills
Ability to travel to Austin during Legislative Session
Develop and maintain positive relationships with community and business leaders that will positively impact our advocacy efforts and provide resources and opportunities to our schools
Attend community events and increasing brand awareness and messaging
Build relationships with local elected officials
Prepare and deliver presentations about public charter schools to community organizations
Develop and implement an effective communication plan to engage our charter community in advocacy efforts
Knowledge of K-12 education policy issues (preferred)
Fluency is Spanish (preferred)
Experience:
3 years teaching experience in Government, Social Studies or related content
